Summer's Sweet Corn

Sorry for all of the veggie/gardening posts, but I can't help myself. I have been bitten by the gardening bug.... I remember a time when the bug bit my mother... now it's happened to me. ha ha!

Our family loves corn. Especially Josiah. He can chew through 3 whole ears of corn in a matter of minutes and will want more.  So, this summer while sweet corn is fresh and good, straight from the fields, you should stock up! (if you have a deep freeze) We saw a man selling his farm goods in town today and he had a load of fresh corn, and it was a great price too! At the grocery store it is $1 for 1 ear of corn, yikes! This guy was selling 14 ears of corn for $5! What a deal!!  We got almost 30 ears of it.  Soo, you might ask, how do you keep it from spoiling?

A burlap sack or brown paper bag is all you need (and a deep freeze).

Just keep the husks on the corn, stack them nicely in your bags and put in your freezer.  A nice farmer man told me this secret last year. We ate wonderful corn all winter long! When you want to cook it, don't let it thaw, just get your pot of boiling water going, take the husks off and put them in and let them boil for about 6-7 minutes. If you got some good corn, it will taste like you just picked it out of the field.

So, go buy some sweet corn while it's good and fresh right now and stock up!!!
